I made a friend at one of my local yarn shops, Main Street Yarns, and when she found out that I am a knitwear designer, she presented a dilemma of hers. You see, her husband has a 30-year-old sweater that he loves, but it got damaged in a house fire. She asked me if I could design a pattern based on that sweater. Excited about the idea, I told her that it was definitely a possibility.
We met again later on, and I got a look at the original sweater (or would it be considered a cardigan?). Though uncertain about it — seeing as how I’ve only knit one sweater in my life and it was a raglan one-piece — I told her that I would give it a go. So I am currently working on designing it. I’ve cast on and have knit a few rows into the hem of the body. It’s slow going, as it’s sockweight yarn. But that’s okay! I knit a test swatch, and from that I can tell that the pattern is going to be really handsome.
I’m so excited about this project that I just had to write about it here. I’ll probably update with my progress here as I continue — and, of course, on Ravelry. My hope is to write here more often about my adventures as a knitwear designer. Liven things up a bit, you know? There’s so much going on that I simply must share it. :)
