Anne K. Riley Designs Archives

I am adding the archives from my old Web site, Anne K. Riley Designs, to this one. They will all be categorized under “Anne K. Riley Designs” so you’ll know what they are. In case you’re wondering why I’m doing this, it’s because there is so much in those old posts that tracks my progress as a knitwear designer, and I would hate to lose all of that.

Introducing Lingonberry Gloves…

Food can be an inspiration for lots of things, and that holds true with this pattern! Dainty little lingonberries rest sublimely near a split cuff. Eyelets dance up one side, giving way to a frilly picot edge that won’t roll back. Gusseted thumbs are simple, yet add a final touch. Fingering weight yarn keeps these gloves light but warm, perfect for those spring days with just a hint of chill. Oh, and you must be warned: knitting them can be addictive.

Getting back to it

In the last two weeks, so much has happened that I wouldn’t know where to begin should I write about everything here. I’m not going to, of course. This is not a personal blog, and even if it was, I still wouldn’t write it all for everyone to see. Suffice it to say that there has been major upheaval, and I am only now beginning to get back to it as far as A.K.R. Designs goes. There is still a lot going on that is taking up my time, but I am at the point now where I can begin devoting time to my designs again.

So with all of that said, please check back in the coming weeks. I’m planning to release a new knitwear design (which was woefully rejected by Knitty), and hopefully some new stitch markers will pop up in there somewhere (like the Trios I mentioned in the March newsletter).

Sweater Re-create

I made a friend at one of my local yarn shops, Main Street Yarns, and when she found out that I am a knitwear designer, she presented a dilemma of hers. You see, her husband has a 30-year-old sweater that he loves, but it got damaged in a house fire. She asked me if I could design a pattern based on that sweater. Excited about the idea, I told her that it was definitely a possibility.

Comfy FingeringWe met again later on, and I got a look at the original sweater (or would it be considered a cardigan?). Though uncertain about it — seeing as how I’ve only knit one sweater in my life and it was a raglan one-piece — I told her that I would give it a go. So I am currently working on designing it. I’ve cast on and have knit a few rows into the hem of the body. It’s slow going, as it’s sockweight yarn. But that’s okay! I knit a test swatch, and from that I can tell that the pattern is going to be really handsome.

I’m so excited about this project that I just had to write about it here. I’ll probably update with my progress here as I continue — and, of course, on Ravelry. My hope is to write here more often about my adventures as a knitwear designer. Liven things up a bit, you know? There’s so much going on that I simply must share it. :)

“Treading Dawn” Scarf now on Ravelry

I am happy to announce that my new crochet scarf, Treading Dawn, is now available on Ravelry. Make sure you check it out!

ABOUT THIS PATTERN

This scarf was inspired by an inspiration. First, Rebekah of Maiden Yarn & Fiber created a yarn colorway inspired by the latest Narnia movie, Voyage of the Dawn Treader. I saw it and bought it right away. Then I had her custom dye me a skein of Cascade Venezia Worsted to match. And it’s that yarn that inspired this scarf. I whipped it up super fast and was really excited with the results. I decided that I had to share it on Ravelry.

And so I give you, without further ado, Treading Dawn.
